Whatsapp, Facebook, and Instagram restored after global outage


Meta platforms - Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram - encountered a widespread outage late on Wednesday.

WEB DESK: Meta platforms – Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram – were recently restored after encountering a widespread outage late on Wednesday.

Users across the globe reported issues with the apps not functioning properly.

The outage seemed to have started with WhatsApp, followed by Instagram and Facebook almost half an hour later.

According to reports, the outage primarily affected image and media uploads on the platforms.

Internet monitoring service Netblocks noted that there were no indications of country-level internet disruptions or filtering associated with the outage.

Meta’s status and outage update page revealed “major disruptions” for several services, including Instagram’s Messenger API, the Messenger Platform, WhatsApp Business API, and the Ads Transparency tool. The Ads Manager also experienced some disruptions.

This outage is part of a series of notable incidents affecting social media platforms in recent months. Recently, LinkedIn encountered difficulties, and prior to that, Facebook and Instagram experienced significant outages lasting for several hours.

Despite the outage, some users on WhatsApp were still able to send messages, although delivery was reportedly affected.

Meta’s official WhatsApp account acknowledged the issues, stating that they were working to restore services to normalcy for all users.

Meta did not immediately respond to inquiries about the outage. However, the company’s WhatsApp account assured users that efforts were underway to resolve the issues promptly.

WhatsApp later confirmed that services were being restored after experiencing server issues. The Meta-owned platform assured users that they were working diligently to restore functionality for all users.
