KARACHI: Gold prices continued the upward trajectory in Pakistan on Thursday owing to the uncertainty that has engulfed the international market after Donald Trump’s tariff threats.

According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), gold price per tola surged to Rs290,300 after witnessing an increase of Rs1,600 per tola.

Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold increased by Rs1,372, reaching to Rs248,885.

In the international market, gold traded in a relatively narrow price range as investors focused on US President Donald Trump’s tariff plans and a key inflation report for monetary policy cues.

Meanwhile, on the penultimate trading day of the month, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 10 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the US dollar (USD) in the initial trading hours on Thursday.

According to currency exchange companies, the US dollar was quoted at Rs278.77 against the local currency in the interbank market.

During the current fiscal year, the PKR has declined against the US dollar by 53.16 paisa or 0.19 per cent. Since the start of the calendar year 2025, it has depreciated by 32.28 paisa or 0.12 per cent.

On the other hand, the government is considering implementing an increase in the prices of petroleum products in Pakistan during the upcoming fortnightly review.

It is expected that this time, prices will not only be increased for petrol but also for high-speed diesel and kerosene oil. This increase is anticipated due to the rise in international oil prices.

According to recent estimates and projections from informed sources, the price of petrol in Pakistan is likely to increase by up to Rs3.5 per litre, while the price of diesel is expected to rise by up to Rs6.5 per litre.

However, it should be noted that these are just estimates and projections. The final decision regarding an increase, decrease, or maintenance of the current prices of petroleum products will be made by the government and is expected to be announced tomorrow after 8 PM, taking effect on Saturday, February 1.
