Goldie Hawn has opened up about her extended break from acting, revealing why she stepped away from Hollywood and what it might take for her to return.
The 80-year-old star has not appeared in a major film since The Christmas Chronicles 2 in 2020, but she says the pause has been intentional rather than a full retirement.
Speaking to People, Hawn explained that her decision comes down to the kind of roles being offered. She said she has read numerous scripts over the years but has yet to find one that truly excites her.
Why she stepped away
Hawn said she reached a point in her life where continuing to do the same work no longer felt fulfilling. Instead, she became interested in exploring other aspects of life beyond acting.
She described life as unfolding in different phases, adding that repeating the same routine for decades did not appeal to her anymore.
With a career spanning decades and films such as Death Becomes Her, The First Wives Club and Private Benjamin, Hawn made it clear she feels satisfied with what she has already achieved.
What could bring her back
Despite her time away, Hawn has not ruled out returning to the screen. She said she would be open to a project if it offered something fresh, funny and creatively engaging.
She added that finding the right material is key, suggesting that a standout script could quickly change her mind.
Hawn also hinted that a family collaboration could be a strong pull, particularly if it involved working alongside her children, including Kate Hudson and Wyatt Russell.
Life beyond Hollywood
In recent years, Hawn has been enjoying a quieter lifestyle with longtime partner Kurt Russell, spending more time away from the spotlight, including at their home in Colorado.
Russell has spoken about embracing a slower pace there, with simple routines such as horse riding and relaxing at home.
For now, Hawn appears content with her time away, but she has not closed the door on acting.
The right role could still bring her back, but only if it feels truly worth it.
