ISLAMABAD: In a setback to the hopes of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader for potential respite, the anticipated roster of cases before Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court has been canceled owing to health-related reasons.
In light of this development, the hearing pertaining to the request by the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, for the reinstatement of his right to defense in connection with the Toshakhana case, will not proceed as initially planned for today.
Toshakhana case: IHC to take up PTI chairman’s plea on Aug 10
Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court will be on leave due to health reasons.
It is noteworthy that the trial court had previously revoked the Chairman of PTI’s entitlement to a defense in the Toshakhana case. The trial court had issued its final verdict prior to the High Court’s decision on the submitted petition.
In the wake of the Chief Justice, Amir Farooq’s ailment, the entire list of cases scheduled for his court has been invalidated.
Importantly, subsequent to receiving a 3-year imprisonment sentence in the Toshakhana case, the Chairman of the Tehreek-e-Insaf, was apprehended from Zaman Park and subsequently transferred to Attock Jail.
Moreover, the Chairman of PTI has also been handed a five-year disqualification penalty by the Election Commission.
