IHC grants bail to woman accused of assaulting husband, daughters

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to Amna Saeed, a woman accused in a case involving alleged assault on her husband and daughters, observing that the dispute between the parties appeared to be domestic and familial in nature.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued an eight-page written order in which the court noted that the prosecution had produced CCTV footage showing the accused herself taking her husband to hospital after the incident.

The court said that, in light of Supreme Court judgments, the accused was entitled to bail following an impartial inquiry into the matter.

According to the order, Saeed holds a PhD in Philosophy and has no previous criminal record. The court also noted that the law gives preference to women and certain other categories of accused when considering the grant of bail.

The IHC cautioned that her bail could be cancelled if she attempted to influence the proceedings or tamper with evidence.

The court accordingly granted Saeed bail against surety bonds of Rs200,000.

The case was registered at the Women Police Station, Islamabad, on the complaint of her husband, Saeed Ahmed, who accused her of assault.
