ISLAMABAD: India’s playback legend Kumar Sanu has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his voice, image, and personal identity against the unauthorised use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated content.

Kumar Sanu, known for his melodious voice spanning nearly four decades, submitted the plea through his advocates Shikha Sachdeva and Sana Raees Khan.

The case is scheduled for hearing on October 14, and will be presided over by Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora.

According to the petition, numerous AI-generated clips and songs have been circulating online, imitating the singer’s voice and style without consent or authorisation. Some of these viral creations have even been monetised, misleading fans and undermining the authenticity of his artistic legacy.

In his statement, Sanu urged the court to direct AI companies and platforms to refrain from using his voice, vocal techniques, images, caricatures, photographs, or signature style without permission.
