Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating ceasefire efforts in the region, while reiterating Tehran’s longstanding distrust of the United States and its commitment to pursuing its rights under international law.
The remarks came during a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir where the Iranian president highlighted Islamabad’s “responsible role” in efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue.
Pakistan’s mediation role highlighted
President Pezeshkian acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution to the ceasefire process, describing it as “notable” and reflective of its broader commitment to regional stability. He said Iran seeks peace, stability, and “brotherly ties” with neighbouring countries, emphasising the importance of cooperation in a volatile geopolitical environment.
He also underlined the significance of unity among Muslim countries, stating that cohesion within the Islamic Ummah would help counter what he described as the objectives of Israel in the region.
The Iranian president expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in hosting Iranian delegations in Islamabad and facilitating dialogue, noting that such efforts are crucial in maintaining diplomatic channels during periods of heightened tensions.
Distrust of US and regional concerns
Addressing relations with Washington, Pezeshkian said the Iranian people do not trust the United States due to what he described as repeated violations of commitments. He stressed that Iran remains firm in its position to secure its rights within the framework of international law.
He further asserted that the United States would not succeed in the ongoing conflict dynamics, warning that both regional and global actors could face significant consequences if tensions escalate further.
According to the Iranian leader, Israel is pursuing its own strategic ambitions in the region, which he suggested are contributing to instability. He maintained that collective regional efforts and unity would be essential in countering such developments.
The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Tehran at a time when Pakistan has been actively positioning itself as a facilitator for dialogue in the Middle East. Officials say Pakistan’s outreach to multiple stakeholders is aimed at encouraging de-escalation and preventing further conflict.
Pezeshkian’s comments also come amid broader discussions on ceasefire arrangements and potential negotiations involving key regional and international actors, with Pakistan continuing to play a central role in hosting and mediating talks.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement, dialogue, and cooperation to ensure peace and stability in the region, amid an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
