Iran pushes back on Trump as Russia signals support on nuclear front

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran remains committed to peace and regional stability, stressing that the country does not seek to expand the scope of conflict. He reiterated that Iran has consistently followed a policy focused on stability and dialogue.

Criticising Donald Trump, the Iranian president said there is no justification for denying Iran its nuclear rights. He questioned the basis of US claims, asking what wrongdoing Iran has committed to warrant such restrictions.

Pezeshkian added that no country or leader has the authority to strip another nation of its fundamental rights, accentuating that Iran does not intend to attack any country but retains the right to defend itself.

Separately, Russia has expressed readiness to assist in transferring enriched uranium from Iran, indicating a potential role in ongoing diplomatic efforts. The head of Russia’s atomic energy agency said Moscow is closely monitoring the progress of talks between the United States and Iran.

He noted that beyond technical challenges, a major hurdle in negotiations remains the lack of trust between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking on past cooperation, he said Russia had successfully facilitated the transfer of enriched uranium in 2015 and is prepared to play a similar role again if required.
