ISLAMABAD: Iranian Ambassador Dr Reza Amiri Moghaddam expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s mediation and “sincere efforts” in helping achieve a ceasefire and subsequent peace framework with the United States.

“The government and people of Iran will always remember the sincere role played by Pakistan’s parliament, government and military leadership in making this peace agreement possible,” the ambassador said while talking to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in Islamabad, according to a statement issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.

Ayaz Sadiq hailed a landmark peace agreement between Iran and the United States, describing it as a “positive and encouraging step” for global stability.

The meeting with Iranian Ambassador Moghaddam comes amid a significant diplomatic thaw between Washington and Tehran, a shift that Pakistani officials say they played a key role in facilitating.

“The agreement between Iran and the United States will play a vital role in establishing peace at both regional and global levels,” Sadiq said.

He said that the deal would foster “mutual trust and stability” in a long-volatile region.

Pakistan, which shares a nearly 900-km (560-mile) border with Iran while maintaining a long-standing strategic partnership with the United States, has frequently attempted to balance its ties between the two rivals.

During the meeting, both officials also discussed strengthening bilateral parliamentary ties and regional security.

Following the talks, the Iranian ambassador and his delegation observed the proceedings of the National Assembly from the visitors’ gallery.
