ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office said on Monday that 22-crew members of the Iranian container ship MV Tosca have been transferred to Pakistan as part of ongoing diplomatic coordination between relevant parties.

Foreign Office spokespersons said the crew was brought to Pakistan by air last night after being relocated from the vessel following recent developments involving its detention. The officials added that the personnel will be handed over to Iranian authorities later today.

According to the statement, the ship itself will be returned to its owners after necessary repair work is completed.

The Foreign Office emphasised that the entire process is being carried out through mutual cooperation and continuous communication between the concerned sides. It described the arrangements as part of broader confidence-building measures aimed at maintaining regional stability and maritime safety.

Officials said Pakistan welcomes such steps that contribute to trust-building and diplomatic engagement. They added that Islamabad will continue to facilitate dialogue and diplomacy between relevant stakeholders whenever required.

The spokesperson also noted that the situation surrounding the vessel developed after the ship was reportedly taken into custody by US authorities in recent days, prompting diplomatic exchanges involving multiple countries to resolve the matter. Authorities did not provide further operational details but confirmed that all actions taken so far have been coordinated and peaceful in nature, with a focus on ensuring the safe transfer of crew members and the eventual return of the vessel.

Pakistan reiterated that it remains committed to supporting diplomatic channels and constructive engagement in resolving international maritime issues.
