MOSCOW: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday there had been some progress in ongoing talks with the United States, but cautioned that a final agreement had yet to be reached.
Speaking to media in St Petersburg, Araghchi said Pakistan had played an important mediating role between Tehran and Washington, helping facilitate communication and move the dialogue forward.
He said previous negotiations had failed largely due to what he described as U.S. “wrong policies” and excessive demands, which hindered efforts to reach a final deal.
Araghchi said recent meetings reviewed past issues in detail and discussed the framework and possible terms for future negotiations.
The Iranian minister also said he would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the current conflict situation and regional developments, calling the engagement an important opportunity for consultations.
He added that Iran and Russia were maintaining close coordination on regional and global issues, with cooperation becoming increasingly important under current circumstances.
Analysts say growing diplomatic engagement between Iran, Russia and Pakistan reflects efforts to reduce regional tensions and pave the way for a potential agreement between Tehran and Washington.
