Islamabad gets much-needed heavy rain, finally

Islamabad rain

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital received heavy rain on Wednesday night, offering much-needed relief to residents from the sizzling and scorching temperatures.

The Met Office had earlier predicted rain for Islamabad and other upper parts of the country. The downpour brought a welcome change for the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, who, along with other parts of the country, had been enduring extreme heat for over two months. Temperatures had soared as high as 52 degrees Celsius in the southern regions.

The relentless heat was compounded by prolonged load-shedding, with some areas experiencing power outages of up to 15 hours a day. Despite the frequent power cuts, residents received inflated electricity bills, adding to their woes. The rain, therefore, provided a much-needed respite from the oppressive weather and ongoing energy crisis.

Local authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as heavy rains may lead to localised flooding in some areas. However, the overall sentiment in the federal capital is one of relief and optimism as the temperatures are expected to drop in the coming days.
