LONDON: The head of London’s Metropolitan Police, Mark Rowley, said on Wednesday that the 45-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London had a known history of serious violence and mental health issues.
Speaking at a news conference, Rowley described the incident as a “horrendous act of violence” that appeared to be directed against the Jewish community.
The attack, which took place in north London, left two victims—aged in their 70s and 30s—injured. Both men are currently in stable condition in hospital.
Police said the suspect was arrested after being stopped with a taser. Officers added that investigations are ongoing and all possible motives are being considered as inquiries continue into the background of the attacker.
Authorities have not yet confirmed further details about the suspect’s identity but said his past history is being examined as part of the investigation.
The incident has intensified concern over recent attacks targeting Jewish communities in London, with police increasing security and continuing investigations into a series of related incidents in the area.
