IT and Telecom ministry undergoes major restructuring

ISLAMABAD: In light of the recommendations from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) a complete restructuring of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has been decided.
The federal government has proposed closing the Telecom Foundation and privatising its subsidiary institutions.
There is also a proposal for large-scale restructuring within the National Information Technology Board, which will engage with the private sector for better models.
The revenue of the Pakistan Software Export Board is to be increased to Rs1 billion. The Virtual University and Universal Funds will continue their operations.

It is proposed that Ignite Technology Funds be gradually transferred to the private sector. An eight-member committee has been formed to oversee these matters
