Kakar among 11 senators elected unopposed from Balochistan

QUETTA: In a notable electoral development, senators have been elected unopposed on 11 vacant seats from Balochistan.

Syedal Nasir and Agha Shah Zeb Durrani of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Sardar Umar Gorgage of the Pakistan People’s Party and Jan Buledi of the National Party were elected unopposed on general seats.

A joint candidate of the Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party, Amil Wali Khan, was elected unopposed on a Senate seat from Balochistan.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Ahmad Khan and independent candidate Anwaarul Haq Kakar secured Senate seats for the general category.

Additionally, Bilal Mandokhail of the Pakistan People’s Party and Maulana Abdul Wasay of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl clinched technocrat seats.

Rahat Jamali of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Hasna Bibi of the Pakistan People’s Party were elected unopposed as senators on seats reserved for women.

Earlier, seven senators including interior minister Mohsin Naqvi were elected unopposed from Punjab.

Polling for the Senate’s vacant seats from Islamabad will take place at Parliament House on April 2, 2024.
