Karachi customs recover smuggled goods worth Rs70 million

KARACHI: In a successful anti-smuggling operation, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi recovered curtain and sofa fabric worth Rs70 million.

The operation was carried out by the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), part of the customs collectorate, in Bahadurabad, a neighbourhood in Karachi.

According to a spokesperson, the foreign-origin fabric was hidden on a large-scale inside the neighbourhood. The items weighed nearly 11,000 kilograms and consisted of mostly American velvet and Turkish fabric among other materials.

The spokesperson said that a first information report (FIR) against the criminals has been registered under the Customs Act of 1969.

Similarly, the Frontier Corps Balochistan (North) stopped the smuggling of Iranian diesel into Pakistan on January 28 near the Balochistan-Sindh border.

As per sources, 379,000 liters of Iranian diesel in at least 9 trucks was recovered. The confiscated diesel was handed over to the customs department after completing legal formalities
