Karachi woman assaulted in broad daylight

KARACHI: A man in Karachi exposed himself in broad daylight and chased down a woman in an abaya in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

CCTV footage captured the man taking off his pants in front of a house in Block 4 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and hiding behind bushes until the young woman passed by. He then attempted to assault her, but she fought him off and managed to escape.

The footage went viral on social media and drew widespread condemnation. Women and men alike expressed their outrage on Twitter.

“So many of these incidents go unrecorded, unreported … what are we gonna do? Blame her dress?” one woman commented in a tweet.

“If we were half as critical of men’s behavior in society as we are to every single thing women do, we would actually be able to work towards a workable solution to many of our society’s ills”, another Twitter user said.

The SSP District East stated that the incident was not reported to police. However, after the video went viral, and the CCTV footage was verified, a police investigation was launched to apprehend the culprit.

The video also drew the attention of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah,who directed the Inspector General (IG) and Additional IG Police to ensure the immediate arrest of the culprit.
