Karachites wakeup to cold, breezy morning

KARACHI: Karachi residents woke up to a chill as strong and gusty winds swept through the city on Tuesday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

These winds, forecasted to persist until evening, have significantly lowered temperatures across the region.

The PMD attributed this weather phenomenon to westerly waves affecting Balochistan and Sindh, which began exerting their influence on Monday evening.

The Met Office reported that winds are blowing from the northeast at speeds ranging from 34 to 36 kilometres per hour, with the potential to reach up to 45 km/h.

Such brisk winds have brought a noticeable drop in temperatures, with Karachi recording a morning temperature of 17°C on Tuesday.

Earlier forecasts from the Met Office had indicated the likelihood of light rain accompanied by windstorms in several cities, including Jamshoro, Dadu, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Larkana.

Over the past few days, Karachi has experienced relatively cool temperatures, with the mercury hovering around 16.5 degrees Celsius between Sunday and Monday.

However, the windstorm on Monday evening further contributed to the drop in temperature, offering residents a refreshing reprieve from the usual warmth of the city.
