Kohistan viral video: three suspected murders of girl arrested

Kohistan viral video

KOHISTAN: Three suspects wanted for the murder of a girl, whose video went viral on social media, have been arrested in Kolai Palas, as confirmed by Kohistan police. The suspects include the girl’s uncle, cousin, and another relative, with their court appearance scheduled for tomorrow.

Simultaneously, one of the boys featured in the video has been taken into protective custody. During a court hearing before the district magistrate, the boy claimed ignorance about how the video was circulated online. The police plan to enlist the assistance of FIA cybercrime to trace the individual responsible for uploading the video.

The dance video, widely shared on social media in Kohistan, a conservative and remote region of Pakistan, ignited local outrage, viewed as a breach of honor and culture. Some reports suggest that the girl was killed on the orders of a local Jirga, following the uproar.

The victim, one of two girls dancing with local boys in the viral video, met a tragic fate. The second girl, facing potential threats, was rescued by the police. However, a senior civil judge, deeming her safe, allowed her to return home with her father.

This case draws parallels with the infamous Kohistan video case of 2012, where five girls were allegedly killed by their families for singing and clapping at a wedding.
