KP govt to challenge PHC’s assembly session order in Supreme Court

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Peshawar High Court (PHC’s) order regarding the convening of the provincial assembly session.

The provincial cabinet has approved the decision to approach the Supreme Court through a circulation.

The provincial government will file a petition on Monday in the Supreme Court against the PHC verdict, which had directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to convene the provincial assembly session.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law Aftab Alam advocate has confirmed that the provincial cabinet has approved the decision to approach the Supreme Court against the high court’s decision.

He said that the provincial advocate general will on Monday file the petition in the Supreme Court with a request to hear the case on an urgent basis.

According to the provincial minister, there was confusion in the high court’s decision.

He said that on one hand, the high court issued instructions to the provincial government to convene the provincial assembly session, while on the other hand, it said in its decision that the governor did not have the authority to summon the assembly session. Aftab Alam advocate clarified that until the Supreme Court decided the matter, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will not convene the provincial assembly session.
