Lahore restaurants allowed to open till Sehri time

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has allowed restaurants in the province to remain open from Iftar till Sehr during the holy month of Ramazan.

The order was passed by LHC Judge Justice Shahid Karim while hearing pleas related to the smog issue in Lahore and other parts of Punjab.

Simultaneously, the court has directed schools to incorporate practical activities related to environmental education at least once a week. This move underscores the court’s commitment to fostering a culture of environmental consciousness from an early age.

The court’s written order states that according to a report submitted to it, environment-related subjects have been included in the school syllabi. Additionally, the court has sought a detailed report on the revised syllabi to be submitted at the next hearing.

Furthermore, the court has addressed environmental concerns by ordering the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to present a final plan for a cleanliness campaign involving school and college students. This initiative aims to mobilize the younger generation in efforts to combat pollution and promote cleanliness in the city.

The court order also quotes the government counsel as saying that power connections to tyre-burning units have been suspended in a decisive action against environmental violations. All staff associated with these violating units have been instructed to comply with this directive promptly.

Moreover, the Lahore High Court has directed Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) officials to cease tree-cutting activities and to inform the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) prior to any cutting.
