Leopard spotted near Faisal Masjid, Islamabad wildlife board issues alert

ISLAMABAD: A leopard has been spotted near the Faisal Masjid area in Islamabad, prompting the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) to issue a public alert and safety advisory for residents and visitors.

According to wildlife officials, videos showing the leopard roaming near the Faisal Mosque campus and surrounding areas have surfaced on social media. Authorities confirmed that the area is near the Margalla Hills, a natural habitat for leopards, which can lead to occasional sightings.

The IWMB stated that people living in nearby areas and students at the International Islamic University have already been informed about safety precautions and standard operating procedures. Officials urged the public to remain cautious, avoid approaching wild animals, and immediately report any sightings to the wildlife department.

Due to the potential presence of the leopard in the vicinity, authorities have also taken precautionary measures in nearby hiking areas. Wildlife teams are currently monitoring the situation, and efforts are underway to track and capture the animal if necessary, safely.

Officials emphasised that encounters with wildlife can occur in areas bordering the Margalla Hills and advised citizens to stay alert while ensuring that the animal is handled safely and humanely.
