Mallorca vs Real Madrid: hosts win 2-1 to dent title hopes

LONDON: Mallorca dealt a major blow to Real Madrid’s LaLiga title hopes as Vedat Muriqi scored an added-time winner to secure a 2-1 victory at home. The result leaves Real four points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Muriqi, who recently faced criticism after Kosovo’s World Cup qualifying loss, broke down in tears after his decisive strike, lifting Mallorca two points clear of the relegation zone.

Real dominated early, with Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler testing Mallorca keeper Leo Roman, but Mallorca’s Pablo Maffeo set up the opening goal for Manu Morlanes in the first half. Real equalised late through Eder Militao, but Muriqi’s last-gasp strike sealed the hosts’ historic win, their first over Real since February 2023.

Real now turn attention to their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, while Mallorca host Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
