Man gets double-death sentence for killing former Kashmiri commander

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced the main accused in the murder of former Kashmiri commander Bashir Ahmed Wani to death twice. 

Wani, also known as, Imtiaz Alam was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle riders in Burma Town, Islamabad in February 2023.

He was a top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and a close associate of Hizb’s head Syed Salahuddin.

The FIR of his murder was registered under charges of terrorism, murder, and other offences while the counter terrorism department had arrested six suspects in the case.

The case was heard by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra. 

Five other convicts were handed a total of 40 years and nine months in prison for terrorism-related offences, including receiving funds from India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to carry out acts of terrorism in Pakistan. 

Prosecutor Raja Naveed presented substantial evidence against the accused. The court sentenced the main culprit, Shahzaib alias Zebi, to death twice for terrorism and murder. 

According to the prosecutor, Shahzaib, along with Moeez Ahmed and Faizan Kiani, received funding from RAW to carry out terrorist activities. Documented evidence of the funding was also presented in court. 

The court sentenced Moeez Ahmed and Faizan Kiani to a total of 40 years and nine months in prison. It also awarded a prison sentence of 35 years and nine months to Mehran Younus, Nauman Sattar, and Arsalan Wajid.
