PESHAWAR: Five people were killed when gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in the Budh Ber area of Peshawar, allegedly over a longstanding enmity.

The attack took place in Mashokhel Khel, Muhallah Fatah Khan Khel, where armed assailants targeted a car, killing all five occupants.

The firing incident took place at 2PM on Sunday night, which also left one person injured.

The victims were identified as Malik Aman, Naheed, Maqsood, Imdad, and Razam Khan.

One of the victims, Naheed son of Hastam, was a policeman.

According to the police record, all the five person killed during the incident were below the age of 40.

Officials confirmed that the shooting was the result of an old rivalry and that all five victims were friends.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the culprits sought revenge from Malik Aman as he had allegedly killed one of their relatives in 2005.

Investigators believe that the attackers, who shot the five friends, were either the relatives or friends of the 2005-murder victim.

Police have registered a case against three suspects and begun raids to arrest them.

Meanwhile, Latif Akash, adopted son of Sindhi poet Dr Akash Ansari, has confessed to killing his father before setting the house on fire.

Dr Akash, 69, tragically lost his life in a fire that erupted at his residence in Citizen Colony, Hyderabad, on Saturday.

On Monday, the investigating officer disclosed that Latif killed Dr Akash and then ignited his room to cover up the crime.

Authorities have collected key evidence and are now awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports to finalize the case.

The officer further revealed that Latif had undergone DNA testing, while police are still waiting for detailed forensic results. He added that the suspect was a drug addict and frequently demanded money from his foster father.

Doctors, while conducting the post-mortem, also ruled out the possibility of an accidental death.

Following suspicions that the incident was not an accident, police took Latif and the poet’s driver into custody for questioning.
