MUMBAI: Australian player Glenn Maxwell’s today match score was a unique feat as he smashed two centuries against Afghanistan in today’s match.
Glenn Maxwell fought through cramps to smash an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls, single-handedly guiding Australia to an improbable three-wicket win over Afghanistan in a World Cup match on Tuesday and sealing the team’s spot in the semi-finals.
At a critical juncture, Australia found themselves struggling at 91 for 7 while pursuing a target of 292. However, Glenn Maxwell’s remarkable performance propelled them to an astonishing double-century, not only securing victory in the game but also cementing their spot in the World Cup semi-finals.
Maxwell sixes
The tension didn’t just mount in the chase’s closing stages. Glenn Maxwell, who had endured the Mumbai heat for 50 overs, started suffering severe leg cramps, rendering his legs immobile. In the 41st over, he grimaced in pain, leading the next batter, No. 10 Adam Zampa, to wait by the boundary while the physiotherapist worked on Maxwell to keep him in the game.
Remarkably, Maxwell soldiered on, batting without shifting his feet, relentlessly dispatching sixes that eventually secured an Australian miracle. He amassed an unbeaten 201 runs from 128 balls, featuring 21 fours and 10 sixes, crafting one of the most memorable ODI innings in history.
Who is Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell plays in all three formats of the game. He is known for his explosive batting, off-spin bowling and brilliant fielding. He is also nicknamed “The Big Show” for his ability to change the game with his unconventional shots and improvisation.
