Meghan Markle finally breaks silence after father’s emotional plea

Meghan Markle has made contact with her father, Thomas Markle, after his public plea for reconciliation following major surgery, with the Duchess confirming that a letter has now reached him.

A spokesperson for Meghan said her correspondence is “now safely in his hands”, noting that it has been “exceedingly difficult” for her to communicate privately due to a reporter stationed at Thomas’s bedside throughout his hospital stay. The representative added that the duchess relied on “trusted contacts” to ensure her message was delivered discreetly.

Thomas, 81, recently underwent surgery that resulted in the amputation of his left leg. Speaking from hospital, he shared his wish to reconcile with Meghan, saying he did not want to “die estranged” from his daughter and hoped to meet grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.

Reports last week suggested Meghan had attempted to reach out, though Thomas initially said he had not received any direct communication. The update issued on Wednesday confirms that contact has finally been established, though Thomas has not publicly commented on receiving the letter.

Meghan has been estranged from her father since 2018, with attempts at communication made more difficult by ongoing media intrusion around his medical condition. Her spokesperson said those circumstances created “clear ethical concerns” as every interaction was being broadcast.

Thomas, meanwhile, has continued to express his desire for a private conversation, telling friends he remains open to healing the rift. “I have never stopped loving her. Of course I want to speak to her, but I am not sure if these are the right circumstances,” he said.

More updates on their communication are anticipated in the coming days.
