RABAT: Morocco has signed an agreement to participate in the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for the Gaza Strip, state media reported on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed in Rabat during a meeting attended by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, senior defence officials, and Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace envoy for Gaza, along with a delegation that included the commander of the ISF, according to the state news agency, MAP.
A statement from the Moroccan defence administration noted that the agreement “reflects the shared determination to contribute, through concrete humanitarian and security actions, to the establishment of a climate of peace and security in the region”.
Security and humanitarian commitments
The Gaza Peace Council and the leadership of the ISF welcomed Rabat’s decision to join the initiative. Officials cited Morocco’s planned deployment of senior military officers, gendarmerie, and police personnel to the mission, alongside the establishment of a military field hospital.
Under the framework, the deployed Moroccan personnel are expected to assist in maintaining order and supporting humanitarian relief operations within the enclave.
Diplomatic context
A close ally of the United States, Morocco restored diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020 under a tripartite agreement. The North African kingdom has consistently maintained its support for a negotiated two-state solution to the Middle East conflict.
The formal signing of the agreement establishes the legal and operational framework for Moroccan personnel participating in the multinational stabilisation effort.
