ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a fresh advisory urging all married citizens across Pakistan to update their marital status in the national database to avoid potential legal complications.
In a statement shared through its official Facebook page, NADRA noted that a significant number of citizens have registered their marriages with local Union Councils but have yet to update their marital status in the NADRA system.
The authority stressed that all such individuals should visit their nearest NADRA registration center at the earliest to ensure their records are accurate and up to date. The update drive is part of NADRA’s ongoing efforts to maintain precise and current citizen data nationwide.
To facilitate the process, NADRA has also introduced an SMS service aimed at reminding and informing citizens about the update requirement. For further assistance, citizens can contact the NADRA helpline at 1777 (for mobile users) or 051-111-786-100, or visit the official website at www.nadra.gov.pk.
According to NADRA, the fee for updating marital status on a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) is Rs100, categorised as an “unprintable alteration.” Applicants must provide valid supporting documents, such as a marriage certificate (Nikahnama), depending on their circumstances, when submitting the modification request.
The authority reiterated that keeping personal information accurate in the NADRA database is essential for ensuring smooth access to government services and preventing identity discrepancies in the future.
