Naqvi orders FIA transparency and reform in Karachi visit

WEB DESK: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a stern mandate for “transparency at all costs” within the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), promising a complete institutional transformation by the end of the year.

During a high-profile visit to the FIA Karachi Zone on Friday, accompanied by Director General Dr Usman Anwar, the Minister conducted a comprehensive inspection of departmental operations, signalling a shift toward a more rigorous, merit-based culture.

Priority on public grievance and merit

During the visit, Naqvi and Anwar received detailed briefings from the Director of FIA Karachi Zone and the Additional Director General (South) regarding pending inquiries and high-priority cases.

The leadership emphasised that the timely redressal of public complaints is no longer optional but a primary performance metric.

Naqvi underscored that the government’s objective is to establish the FIA as the nation’s most reliable institution, warning that while honest officers will receive “full protection and job security,” there will be zero tolerance for corruption.

A new system of rewards and punishments is set to be implemented to ensure that justice remains the agency’s focal point.

Modernisation and personnel welfare

Looking ahead to a self-imposed deadline of 31 December, the Interior Minister outlined a vision to transition the FIA into a “modern, dynamic, and effective” body.

This restructuring extends beyond investigations to the welfare of the workforce; DG Usman Anwar confirmed that the promotion system is being overhauled to facilitate better professional development.

Additionally, new provisions for medical facilities and regular health screenings for staff were announced. Anwar noted that further resource allocation would be strictly tethered to institutional performance, incentivising circles to resolve public issues with increased transparency and speed.
