LAHORE: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday claimed that the head of a political party was upset over not being given a role in the governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or being appointed the province’s governor.
Speaking informally to journalists in Lahore, Naqvi did not name the politician but alleged that he had relied on the establishment for political support for decades.
“He even used to get air tickets for his political party arranged through the establishment,” the minister said, adding that such politicians should not criticise others while overlooking their own past.
Naqvi said political differences were legitimate but urged political leaders to base their arguments on facts and evidence rather than resorting to inappropriate language and allegations.
The minister also questioned the recent concerns expressed by some political leaders over the allocation of resources to the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), now merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He asked why those leaders had remained silent for years when, according to him, the former tribal districts were not receiving their rightful share of resources.
Naqvi said the rights and resources of the people of the former tribal districts should be treated as an issue beyond political interests.
Referring to the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the interior minister said the province was facing serious challenges and urged political leaders to help restore peace and eliminate terrorism rather than fuel tensions and political discord.
He said the province needed stability and collective efforts instead of political confrontation.
