LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a man accused of blackmailing and harassing women by luring them through online spiritual services, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the suspect allegedly trapped women by offering online istikhara services and various amulets and talismans. Investigators said he gained the trust of victims before exploiting them.
Authorities alleged that the accused obtained indecent photographs and private videos of women through deception and then used the material to extort large sums of money from them.
The spokesperson said the suspect’s mobile phone had been seized and a forensic examination was underway to gather further evidence. A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), while investigators have launched efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have assisted him in cybercrime and online exploitation activities.
Officials said the investigation was continuing and further arrests could not be ruled out.
