Nephew arrested for killing aunt during robbery

KARACHI: Four days after the killing of a woman during a robbery at her home in Orangi Town, police have arrested the slain woman’s nephew on charges of murder.

Police said that the suspected murderer is the victim’s nephew, who has confessed to killing her during the robbery.

Police said that they made the arrest after they found his presence in the area with the help of CCTV cameras installed in the locality.

According to the Orangi Senior Superintendent of Police, the incident happened on September 14, in Sector 13/F. He said that the accused forcefully entered the victim’s residence and, during the course of a robbery, murdered her with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing with cash amount of Rs1,500,000.

The case came to light after the victim’s daughter filed a complaint at the Pakistan Bazaar police station in Orangi Town. Subsequently, an investigation was initiated, relying on CCTV footage and other evidence.

The collaborative efforts of the police force led to the successful arrest of the suspect, identified as Dilshad.

During the investigation, the police also recovered the stolen money Rs1,500,000 from the suspect’s possession, the police said.

Police said that the suspect was the victim’s nephew, and he was aware of the presence of money in her home.

Seizing the opportunity when his aunt was alone, he carried out the robbery, and killed her driven by the fear of being recognised.

During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to his crime. Further investigation is under way, the police said.
