NEPRA renews K-Electric’s licence for another 20-year

K-Electric licence

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has renewed the power distribution and supply licence of Karachi Electric (K-Electric) for another 20 years.

The non-exclusive licence renewal comes after KE’s application for a non-exclusive licence in anticipation of the liberalisation of the power sector.

KE’s previous 20-year licence had expired in July 2023. NEPRA had then issued KE an interim distribution licence for six months, which was due to end in January 2024.

The renewal decision was made after a thorough hearing that concluded on November 28, 2023. After the hearing, NEPRA has given K-Electric the permission to carry on its power supply operations in Karachi, Uthal, Bela, Vinder, Hub, Dhabeji, and Gharo.
