GUJRANWALA: A dramatic turn of events unfolded on Thursday as an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Gujranwala issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 51 PTI leaders.

The charges stem from their alleged involvement in the disturbing incidents of vandalism and arson that marred Gujranwala Cantonment on May 9.

Farrukh Habib, Hammad Azhar, Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Saeed are amongst the PTI 51 leaders whose arrest warrants have been issued.

The court, has set a deadline, directing the police to submit a comprehensive report by December 23 to guide the next steps in this case.

Police officials, briefing the court, divulged that the PTI leaders, seemingly apprehensive of impending arrests, have resorted to hiding.

The genesis of this legal saga traces back to May 9 when the arrest of PTI’s former chairman, Imran Khan, triggered a wave of protests across the country, including Gujranwala.

In the aftermath, these demonstrations escalated into an unfortunate spectacle of violence, with government buildings, military installations, and poignant memorials to Pakistan Army’s martyrs becoming the unfortunate targets of vandalism and arson.

The incidents of wanton destruction and chaos sent shockwaves throughout the nation, prompting swift legal action against those accused of orchestrating the chaos.
