WEB DESK: Actor Osman Khalid Butt is once again proving that satire can be the sharpest form of social commentary. The actor, writer, with unapologetic self set social media ablaze after posting a tongue-in-cheek response to a viral tweet listing “qualities of an ideal wife.”

The ‘ideal’ list by an X user was in response to a scene from HUM TV’s popular drama Jama Taqseem which has garnered popularity since it was aired a few weeks ago.

Quote-tweeting the original post, Butt wrote: “This list is weak. Allow me to expand.” What followed was a masterclass in comedic feminism, a 25-point thread that shredded patriarchal expectations of women while leaving readers in stitches.

His “expanded” list included gems like:

  • “Doesn’t fry an egg without a haya ka tarrka.”
  • “Thinks a man can, God forbid, operate a washing machine.”
  • “Refuses to hand-wash your fragile masculinity in washing powder Nirma.”
  • “Won’t align the TV remote with the qibla after use.”

From mocking the obsession with “haya” to exposing everyday misogyny disguised as tradition, Butt’s tweet resonated with many, especially women who saw their lived realities reflected in his biting humour. The post quickly went viral, amassing waves of praise for its wit as many joined in to expand the list.

Known for his sharp intelligence both on and off screen, Butt has long used his platform to challenge regressive social norms.
