Pakistan braces for rain, thunderstorms and strong winds

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several parts of the country, particularly in northern and hilly regions.

According to the PMD, several areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Dir, Chitral, Malakand, Kohistan and Buner are expected to receive rain with gusty winds and thunder.

It said isolated rainfall is also likely in Malam Jabba, Kalam, Parachinar and Abbottabad, while weather in mountainous regions is expected to remain pleasant.

In the past 24 hours, Malam Jabba recorded the highest rainfall at 67 millimetres, the Met Office said.

The PMD has advised citizens to take precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas.

The department also forecast further rainfall in Lahore in the coming days.

It said that hot and humid conditions continued in Karachi, where temperatures were expected to reach up to 38 degrees Celsius, with persistent humidity.

In the federal capital Islamabad, weather is expected to remain hot and dry, while southern parts of the country are likely to experience mostly hot and dry conditions, the Met Office said.
