Pakistan foreign office condemns attack on Iranian consulate in Syria


Pakistan condemns attack on Chinese citizens

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Tuesday condemned the attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus.

In an official statement, the Foreign Office “strongly condemns the attack on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria”.

The statement further added that Pakistan “offer[s] our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the people and the Government of Iran”.

The Foreign Office declared the “attack [as] an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of Syria and undermines its stability and security”.

The Foreign Office went on to call the attack a “violation of international law and the UN Charter. Attacks against diplomats or diplomatic facilities are also illegal under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961”.

The Foreign Office proclaimed the attack as an “irresponsible act of the Israeli forces [which] is a major escalation in an already volatile region”.

The statement further added that it called “on the UN Security Council to prevent Israel from its adventurism in the region and its illegal acts attacking its neighbours and targeting foreign diplomatic facilities”.
