Pakistan Navy seizes 2,800kg of narcotics worth $750m in Arabian Sea: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy ships HUNAIN and YARMOOK have seized more than 2,800 kilograms of narcotics worth an estimated $750 million during a joint counter-narcotics operation in the Arabian Sea, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

According to the military wing, the ships were on routine patrol when they intercepted a suspicious boat. A boarding team searched the vessel and recovered the narcotics from concealed compartments.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the Pakistan Navy for the successful operation and congratulated its officers and personnel on the seizure. He also commended the navy’s professionalism, vigilance and surveillance capabilities, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

PM Shehbaz said Pakistan Navy operations against drug trafficking were commendable and highlighted the navy’s role in protecting the country’s maritime boundaries and preventing illicit trafficking through the sea.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf also praised the officers and crew involved in the operation for their professionalism and vigilance. The navy chief reaffirmed the force’s commitment to maritime security and efforts to counter illicit trafficking at sea.

The authorities did not provide details about the type of narcotics seized or the identity of those aboard the intercepted vessel.
