Pakistan women’s team set to battle England in first ODI today


DERBY: Pakistan women’s cricket team will face off against England women’s team as part of a three-match one day international (ODI) series on Thursday (today).

The first match of the series will be played at the County Ground in Derby.

The Pakistan women’s team lost the previous T20 series quite badly with a 3-0 loss against England. However, Sidra Amin is hopeful that the team will perform better in the upcoming ODI series.

Sidra Amin holds a record of 948 runs at an average of 52.66, as per the International Cricket Council (ICC). The player is confident in the women’s team’s abilities and expects a victory.

The Pakistan women’s squad is led by Nida Dar. The teams comprises of several famous players including Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, and Sidra Amin. Meanwhile, the England women’s team is led by captain Heather Knight.

The English squad boasts the likes Tammy Beaumont, Kate Cross, Sarah Glenn, Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone. Ecclestone in particular broke the record for the highest number of wickets taken by an England player in T20 format. She broke the record during the T20 series against Pakistan.

In a blow to the English team, Nat Sciver-Brunt could not make the squad as she is currently unable to bowl.

The English captain is eager to extend her team’s winning stream in the upcoming series as well. She stated that she hopes to maintain a “ruthless” winning streak across all formats of the game.

The upcoming series will help serves as preparation for both teams ahead of the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup. The fifty-over world is slated to take place in India in 2025.

The schedule for the upcoming ODI series includes the first match in Derby on Thursday, followed by the second on Sunday in Taunton. Meanwhile, the third and final match of the series will be played in Chelmsford on May 29.
