US stuns cricket world with huge victory over Bangladesh


HOUSTON: The United States (US) men’s cricket team stunned the world with a shocking victory over Bangladesh in the opening T20I of a three-match series on Tuesday.

The audience at Prairie View in Houston witnessed history unfold as an underdog team achieved the biggest upset in T20 international history by defeating one of the best.

The US team won by five wickets with three balls remaining as they easily chased a target of 154 runs in 19.3 overs.

The North American team won the toss and chose to bowl, a decision that proved fruitful.

While Towhid Hridoy was able to score 58 runs at expense of 47 balls, the rest of Bangladesh batting line-up could not perform as well. Mahmudullah fell by the 22nd ball while scoring 31 runs.

Similarly, Soumya Sarkar scored only 20 runs in 13 balls before he was bowled.

The US bowlers kept a tight leash on the Bengal batters with Steven Taylor taking two wickets. He yielded only nine runs in his allotted three overs.

Meanwhile, Saurabh Netravalkar and Jasdeep Singh clinched a single wicket each, while conceding a combined 57 runs in seven overs.

When it was the North American team to bat, Corey Anderson scored 34 runs off 25 balls, while Harmeet Singh scored 33 runs in just 13 balls. Steven Taylor also provided 28 runs to help his team chase the target.

Bangladeshi bowlers fared better than their batting counterpart, with Mustafizur Rehman taking two wickets. However, he yielded over 41 runs in just four overs!

Meanwhile, Rishad Hossain and Shoriful Islam each took a single wicket, while they conceded 16 and 31 runs respectively.

The US men’s cricket team easily chased the target, scoring 156 runs to create one of biggest upsets in the sport’s history.

Harmeet Singh was crowned player of the match for a controlled run rate during his bowling and scoring 33 runs in just 13 balls.

The win marks a significant moment for the US team as its their first-ever win over an established, strong international team.

While the US team will undoubtedly celebrate their very first victory of the series, it will also be remembered as one of the greatest upsets in cricket history.
