Pakistani boxer Zohaib Rashid qualifies for quarter-finals

HANGZHOU, China: Pakistani boxer Zohaib Rashid advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Games 2023, beating UAE’s Sultan Al Nuaimi 5-0 in the men’s flyweight (46-51 kg) division.
Rashid, 23, dominated the bout from the start, landing punches with speed and accuracy. He outclassed his opponent in all three rounds, earning unanimous verdicts from the judges.
Rashid, who won a bronze medal at the 2019 South Asian Games, said he was confident of his performance and hoped to win a medal for his country.

“I trained hard for this event and I am happy with my result. I want to thank Allah for giving me this opportunity. I will try my best to win a medal for Pakistan,” he said after the match.
Rashid will face Uzbekistan’s Shakhobidin Zoirov, the reigning Olympic and world champion, in the quarter-finals.
The Asian Games 2023, which were postponed from 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are being held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8. The event features 61 sports and 481 gold medals.
