ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has delivered an unambiguous message to Afghanistan, saying the Afghan Taliban regime must choose either the ‘Fitna al-Khawari’ or Pakistan — there is no third option.

He also warned India not to fall prey to “self-deception or wishful thinking,” cautioning that Pakistan’s response next time would be “even swifter and far more severe.”

Speaking at a ceremony following his appointment as the country’s first CDF at the General Headquarters (GHQ), Gen Munir addressed officers of all three services, saying that the establishment of the new Defence Forces Headquarters marks a historic structural change.

He said that in view of growing threats, the three armed services must operate under a unified system.

“Given the increasing and evolving nature of challenges, multi-domain operations must be further strengthened under a unified tri-services framework,” he said.

Field Marshal Asim Munir said that the creation of the Defence Forces Headquarters is a necessary step in this direction. Each service will retain its individuality for operational preparedness, while the new headquarters will synchronise inter-service operations.

“All three services will maintain their internal autonomy and organisational structures,” he said.

Warning India once again, he said the neighbouring country must not fall into any illusion about Pakistan’s capabilities. “Pakistan’s response next time will be even faster and more intense,” he said.

Speaking on Afghanistan, the field marshal said a clear message has been conveyed to the Taliban regime: there is no option other than choosing between the Khawarij and Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan is a peace-loving country but will not allow anyone to compromise its territorial integrity.

“Everyone must know that Pakistan’s concept is indestructible. The country’s defence is secured by the faith-driven courage of its soldiers and the unwavering resolve of a united nation.”

Earlier, after being appointed as Pakistan’s first CDF, Field Marshal Asim Munir was presented a guard of honour at GHQ, where all three armed services participated in the ceremony.
