Patrick Muldoon dies at 57 after sudden health emergency

Patrick Muldoon, known for his roles in Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, has died at the age of 57 following a sudden medical emergency.

His manager confirmed the news, while TMZ reported that the actor suffered a heart attack. Paramedics were called after he was found unconscious at his home in Beverly Hills.

A career that defined ’90s television

Muldoon rose to fame in the early 1990s after originating the role of Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, a part he later returned to years after his initial run.

He went on to play Richard Hart in Melrose Place, cementing his place in the era’s primetime television landscape, and appeared in films including Starship Troopers, directed by Paul Verhoeven.

Alongside acting, he built a steady career as a producer, contributing to projects such as The Tribes of Palos VerdesArkansasThe Card Counter and Riff Raff. His latest project, Kockroach, is currently in production.

His relationships and private life back in focus

Following news of his death, attention has also turned to Muldoon’s personal life, including his relationships with actresses Denise Richards and Tori Spelling in the 1990s.

He also dated French actress Juliette Binoche, and was most recently in a relationship with Miriam Rothbart, whom he began dating in 2023 and was with at the time of his death.

Despite the high-profile nature of some of his relationships, Muldoon was known to have remained on good terms with several former partners.

Tributes have begun to emerge following confirmation of his death.

His Days of Our Lives co-star Alison Sweeney described the news as “heartbreaking”, calling him “brilliantly talented” and “endlessly kind”, and recalling the warmth he brought to set.

Muldoon is survived by his partner, his parents and extended family.

His death has prompted fans to revisit not just his work on screen, but the life he lived beyond it.
