Payal Gaming case sparks debate on online misinformation and AI manipulation

Payal Gaming case sparks debate on online

WEB DESK: A viral video circulating on social media platforms has sparked controversy after claiming to feature popular Indian gaming content creator Payal Gaming, raising fresh concerns over online misinformation and the misuse of deepfake technology.

According to online sources, the video — described by users as a private recording — was widely shared across platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp. Screenshots and short clips from the video were circulated extensively, prompting debate among social media users over its authenticity.

However, multiple fact-checkers and digital media analysts have found no credible evidence confirming that the footage features Payal Gaming. Experts say the video appears to have been digitally manipulated, possibly using artificial intelligence or deepfake technology. Several links associated with the viral content reportedly redirect users to spam pages or unrelated websites designed to generate clicks.

Members of Payal Gaming’s fan community and other social media users have pointed out noticeable visual inconsistencies in the video, including facial distortions and mismatches with her verified images — common indicators of deepfake content. Supporters have urged the public to refrain from sharing the unverified material and to avoid clicking on suspicious links.

Payal Gaming, whose real name is Payal Dhare, is among India’s most prominent female gaming creators. She rose to fame through live streams and gameplay videos, particularly of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), and is affiliated with leading gaming organisation S8UL Esports.

She has over 4.5 million subscribers on her main YouTube channel and is widely followed for her gaming, collaboration and lifestyle-related content. Her estimated net worth in 2025 is reported to be between Rs 6 crore and Rs 10 crore, generated through digital content, brand partnerships and competitive gaming. Her official BGMI in-game ID is 5120321397, where she is known as S8uLPaYal.

The controversy follows a similar recent incident involving another content creator, where a viral hashtag linked to an alleged private video spread rapidly online. Digital safety experts have once again advised users to verify information before sharing viral content, warning that the spread of unverified or manipulated material can cause serious reputational harm.
