PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA), an agency overseeing the Peshawar Metro Bus Project (BRT) and Mass Transit Plan, is currently facing a serious financial crisis.

As a result, KPUMA employees have been deprived of their salaries for the past five months.

According to sources, after its establishment, KPUMA was allocated a fund of Rs100 million for operational expenses. However, during the caretaker government’s tenure, these funds were exhausted.

Despite bringing the matter to the notice of the caretaker government, no additional funds were allocated to KPUMA, rendering its employees without salaries for the last five months.

To address this financial crisis, the transport secretary had also written to the finance department and the law department, seeking permission to allocate funds from the BRT TransPeshawar’s budget to KPUMA.

According to documents available with HUM News English, the provincial government has called a meeting of the TransPeshawar Board of Directors on April 22 to assess KPUMA’s financial crisis and other related matters.

The additional chief secretary P&D will chair the meeting, which will be attended by the transport secretary, KPUMA managing director, commissioner of Peshawar, Peshawar Development Authority director general and the chief executive officer of TransPeshawar. The meeting will obtain approval for allocating funds from TransPeshawar’s budget to KPUMA, the sources said.
