Peshawar Zalmi defeat Multan Sultans by seven wickets

Peshawar Zalmi

MULTAN: Peshawar Zalmi outclassed Multan Sultans by seven wickets in a one-sided contest during the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), successfully chasing a modest target of 109 runs in the 13th over.

Zalmi lost three wickets during the chase, but opener Saim Ayub led from the front with an impressive knock of 49 off 33 deliveries. Babar Azam managed only eight runs, while Mohammad Haris added seven. Max Bryant chipped in with 38 valuable runs.

Multan Sultans, batting first, were bundled out for just 108 runs. Shahid Aziz picked up two wickets for the Sultans, while David Willey claimed one.

After the match, Multan Sultans’ batting coach Julian Wood expressed disappointment over the team’s third consecutive loss, admitting early wickets cost them the game. “We lost four to five wickets early, which broke our momentum. Once that happens, you start making changes after defeats,” he said.

Wood added that while the team was not satisfied with the outcomes, players were only human and mistakes were bound to happen. “No team can perform consistently all the time. We apologise to our fans — we couldn’t deliver,” he said, acknowledging that the team never managed to recover after losing their opening game.

He further admitted the team underperformed in both batting and bowling departments and vowed to finish the tournament on a high note by winning their last match.
