Petrol, diesel prices rise from today as govt announces fresh hike

ISLAMABAD: Petrol and diesel prices have gone up from today, July 25, after the government notified another increase in petroleum product rates, adding further pressure on consumers already facing rising transport and household costs.

Under the revised prices, high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs4.80 per litre, taking its new price to Rs383.46 per litre. Petrol has also been raised by Rs3.66 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs335.18 per litre. The Petroleum Division said the latest prices will be applicable from July 25.

The latest increase comes amid a series of upward revisions in fuel prices following the shift to daily price adjustments. Since the start of daily pricing, petrol has become more expensive by Rs24.47 per litre, while diesel has risen by Rs60.16 per litre.

According to the Petroleum Division, petrol was increased by Rs5.44 per litre and diesel by Rs31.05 per litre from July 18. On July 21, petrol was reduced by 35 paisa per litre, while diesel was increased by Rs5.71 per litre.

For July 22, petrol was raised by Rs4.93 per litre and diesel by Rs7.15 per litre. The following day, petrol became costlier by Rs6.39 per litre, while diesel increased by Rs7.83 per litre. On July 24, the government raised petrol by Rs4.40 per litre and diesel by Rs3.62 per litre.

The continued rise in fuel prices is expected to add pressure on transport costs and household budgets, particularly as diesel has a direct impact on freight, public transport and agricultural activity. The government, however, maintains that the latest increases are linked to volatility in global oil prices caused by the ongoing war between Iran and the United States.
