Petrol price rises by Rs12.90, diesel by Rs3.72 per litre

The federal government on late Monday evening announced fresh prices for petrol and High Speed Diesel (HSD) after a two-day break, with petrol witnessing an increase of Rs12.90 per litre and diesel rising by Rs3.72 per litre.

According to the notification, petrol will now be available at Rs358.77 per litre following the increase.

Similarly, the price of diesel has been increased to Rs381.77 per litre.

The government approved the revised prices following an updated notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

The latest increase comes amid frequent changes in petroleum prices, which are directly linked to fluctuations in international oil prices.

The repeated revisions in petrol and diesel prices have placed an additional burden on consumers.

‘If tensions in region ease, oil prices will come down’

Meanwhile, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said, “If tensions in the region ease, oil prices will also come down,” adding that the government was working to help reduce tensions in the region.

Regarding the petroleum levy, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has called on the government to reduce the levy by Rs80, with both sides now at the negotiating table.

JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the party’s negotiating team had presented its proposals with detailed arguments, while the government had sought time to consult various departments before responding.

The government on Monday assured JI that it would consider the party’s proposals for providing relief to consumers hit by rising petrol and diesel prices, with another round of talks scheduled in three days.

Iqbal said the next round of negotiations would be held after three days, adding that the government welcomed constructive proposals from political parties.

“Every government wants to create ease for the people,” he said.

JI deputy chief Liaquat Baloch said the party had presented six proposals aimed at providing relief to the public, including the withdrawal of the Rs80-per-litre petroleum levy on petrol and diesel.
