Islamabad: The federal government has assured citizens that Pakistan is not facing a shortage of petroleum products, despite the ongoing US-Iran tensions that have affected fuel supplies globally. The government said that even amid concerns over a potential Strait of Hormuz blockade, the country’s fuel reserves remain secure and distribution continues smoothly across all regions.
The statement came after the Federal Energy Minister Musadik Malik and Broadcasting and Communication Minister Attaullah Tarar gave a joint brief at a conference held in Islamabd today.
Addressing the recent price surge, both the ministers said that the government has provided a targeted subsidy of Rs12.9 billion to stabilise fuel prices and shield the public from the impact of rising international crude costs.
The move ensures that essential petroleum products remain affordable for both urban and rural consumers, according to the ministers.
They said that a strong supply chain planning and diversified import routes have helped Pakistan maintain a steady fuel supply, preventing shortages and panic buying.
Citizens can continue to rely on uninterrupted access to petrol and diesel across the country, they added in their separate statements here.
The officials also said that the given subsidies are being strategically targeted to support vulnerable groups, including farmers, motorcyclists, and low-income commuters, while balancing fiscal responsibility.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan remains resilient amid global energy volatility, with measures in place to absorb international price shocks and provide relief to ordinary citizens.
Meanwhile, the federal government has also announced a free travel on all the government buses in the capital, continuing till the 3rd of May. The free travel is provided on all the red, green and the orang buses in the capital, according to officials. The government took this initiative to facilitate all the unaffordable citizens and serve in the best interest of these locals in the capital. The citizens, who the HUM News officials talked to, also admired the strategy being implemented in the capital.
